Volunteering in Cape Town, South Africa is exceptionally rewarding. Volunteers participating in our Community Volunteer Projects connect and interact with local communities and children in disadvantaged communities.
- Afterschool and Holiday Care – Volunteers assist in providing a safe afterschool environment for children from the local disadvantaged community. Volunteers assist children with their homework and provide the extra care and attention that is often lacking in their home environment. These afternoons are fun and can sometimes be quite active! The kids are a range of ages and are always excited and love to chat, listen to stories and play games. As this project is relatively unstructured volunteers are encouraged to bring games and activities to play once the children have completed their homework.
- Environmental Education – Volunteers work with local communities, schools and education centres to increase awareness around important environmental issues, biodiversity conservation and the need to support sustainable development. Volunteers participate in educational activities, community projects and environmental awareness surveys. This is a great way to get to know and understand the local community of which volunteers will very quickly become a part.
- Children’s Sports Coaching – Volunteers participate in conducting rugby, soccer or netball sporting clinics for primary school children. Sport is a great way for kids to keep active and healthy, it also encourages friendships and helps to develop their skills. Volunteers do not need previous coaching experience, but are required to have sound knowledge of the sport rules and some playing experience.
